Mid-North Coast Equine Spectacular

Our horse for the day on Wednesday, 25 February 2009

March 15th, Taree Showground

Ray Of Light

A big-hearted group of local horse owners and animal lovers have rallied together to showcase the regions best horse flesh with an Equine Spectacular, specifically to raise funds for the RSPCA Bush Fire Appeal.

Teaming up with Taree Pet Barn’s Pet Expo being held the same day, the Equine Spectacular will feature ridden equestrian displays, breed displays, dressage to music, long-reining and much more.

The focus is of course the parade of our regions most beautiful and accomplished stallions, including Champion Arabians, Coloured Horses, Warmbloods, Ponies, Quarter Horses and the reigning Australian Grand Prix Champion Regardez Moi. Each owner has kindly donated one service to their stallion which will be silently auctioned to the highest tender, and the full amount donated to help animals injured and displaced during the recent and continued bush fires in Victoria.

However you don’t need to be a horse owner to join in the fun! There will also be an auction of goods including paintings by local artists (Sue Brooks, Celia Tanner and Ernie Warell) and many more exciting items.

If you are interested in checking out the list of stallions up for auction, CLICK HERE for a PDF file listing all of their details. UPDATED FEB 25 - CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES.
If you can’t make it on the 15th you can still CLICK HERE to submit a bid in writing by 13th March.

Other attractions include a dog gymkhana, vertical dog jumping, dog lotto, the budgie clue, the reptile man and the Pet Show, plus a jumping castle for the kids and lots more – the list is growing daily!  It’s going to be an exciting day out for the whole family, so lock in March 15th 2009 in your calendars!

Pretty Girl - Part II

Our horse for the day on Wednesday, 21 May 2008

David: Surry Hills Australia

Pretty Girl was meant to go to Perth to live with the station owner, but somehow she ended up in Alice Springs in a yard of over 200 horses that were to be shipped off for slaughter. She lucked out…being friendly she did not get onto the trucks as easily as the other horses and she and one other mare simply did not fit, and were left there with all of the foals. When I found out about the situation I did everything I could to get her and the others to Sydney, where they became celebrities of sorts for the Australian wild horses. The other horses all found homes, and I kept Pretty Girl who eventually gave birth to a beautiful bay filly we named Holly. (See more images and read comments…)

Pretty Girl - Part I

Our horse for the day on Tuesday, 20 May 2008

David: Surry Hills, Australia

Newhaven Pretty Girl really has lived a charmed life, which began as a wild brumby foal on a station in the Australian Outback. While only weeks old, her mother died and Pretty Girl was found by the station owner dehydrated and laying beside her mothers body. He took pity on her and brought her home to be hand-raised.
