Newhaven Jack

Our horse for the day on Monday, 05 May 2008

David: Surry Hills, Australia

Newhaven Jack is a Waler gelding that was rescued from Newhaven Station in the Northern Territory. He was meant to travel to Perth when the sale of the station went through as he was the mate of the station owners favourite mare, Pretty Girl, whom he had hand-raised froma foal then returned to the wild. We are not sure how, but Pretty Girl and Jack were seperated and Pretty Girl was sent to Sydney, while Jack was supposedly sent to the abbatoir. Many months after this, they were reunited when Jack and some other stallions from Newhaven were found at an abbatoir in Windsor where he was purchased and brought to the same property as Pretty Girl.

Somehow they knew they were together again, and through the night they each went through many fences to get to each other…accompanied by their new daughter who had been born a month earlier. Jack is a fine example of a Waler, standing 15.3hh (which is big for a desert-raised wild horse) and very solid. He does not have to work, he and Pretty Girl enjoy a simple life together.
